Australia Increased Student Visa Fees: What Indian Students Need to Know

Study in Australia

Starting July 1, Australia has significantly increased its student visa fees from AUD 710 to AUD 1,600. This move aims to manage high migration levels and ease pressure on the housing market. For Indian students, who are the second-largest group of international students in Australia, this fee hike will have a considerable financial impact.

In addition to the increased fees, new regulations now prevent temporary visa holders, such as those on Graduate or Visitor visas, from applying for a student visa while in Australia. This change affects many Indian students already in the country, complicating their plans to continue their education in Australia.

The Australian government aims to ensure that only genuine students receive visas, thereby enhancing the integrity of its education system. However, the new fee structure makes an Australian student visa much more expensive compared to the US (USD 185) and Canada (CAD 150). Despite these higher costs, the quality of education and post-study opportunities in Australia remain exceptional.

Indian students must now weigh the higher initial investment against the potential benefits of studying in Australia, such as reputable institutions and promising career prospects. While these changes present challenges, the long-term rewards of an Australian education continue to make it a desirable destination for many.
